William-Adolphe Bouguereau

The Master of the French Academy William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825–1905) was the quintessential figure of French Academic art and one of the most celebrated painters of the 19th century. Born in La Rochelle, France, he displayed an immense talent for drawing at an early age, eventually studying at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1850, he won the coveted Prix de Rome, a scholarship that allowed him to study the Renaissance masters in Italy, which profoundly influenced his lifelong devotion to classical beauty.
